MARYAM Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global University of Science and Technology (GUST), Dominican Republic, in a move aimed at strengthening international academic collaboration and expanding global educational opportunities for students.
According to the MAAUN website, agreement was signed during a virtual ceremony and is expected to boost MAAUN’s international visibility while fostering collaborative academic research between the two institutions.
Under the partnership, both universities will recruit domestic and international students, giving them the opportunity to complete their studies at either MAAUN or GUST.
The collaboration will also see the institutions jointly develop professional programmes and courses tailored to meet current national and international industry needs.
MAAUN President, Mohammad Israr, signed the agreement alongside GUST Founder and President, Mohamed Gamal Kafafy.
Speaking on the development, Prof. Israr expressed optimism about the partnership, noting that MAAUN currently runs 22 academic programmes fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
In his remarks, Prof. Kafafy explained that GUST is an international university committed to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through leadership and employment-driven education.
Also speaking, Abubakar Sadiq Haruna, Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation (IAHERI), said the partnership aligns with MAAUN’s mission of developing talents that will positively impact society.
On his part, MAAUN Vice President Administration, Habib Awais Abubakar, congratulated both institutions and emphasized that the agreement would provide students with essential skills needed for self-reliance.
