ELECTRICITY distribution companies (DisCos) collected a total of N203.61 billion from customers in April, according to the latest Commercial Performance Factsheet released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
News Point Nigeria reports that the April collection represents an increase from the N196.13 billion recorded in March, reflecting a 3.8 per cent rise in revenue collected by the country’s 11 electricity distribution companies.
According to the commission, the value of energy received by the DisCos also increased during the period, rising from N293.76 billion in March to N302.96 billion in April.
The report further showed that the value of electricity billed to customers climbed to N252.43 billion in April, compared to N246.43 billion recorded in the previous month.
NERC said the electricity distribution companies achieved a collection efficiency of 80.66 per cent in April, representing a 1.07 percentage-point improvement over the 79.59 per cent recorded in March.
The commission, however, noted a slight decline in the industry’s billing efficiency, which stood at 83.32 per cent in April, compared to 83.89 per cent in the preceding month.
According to the regulator, the DisCos recorded a revenue recovery efficiency of 82.11 per cent, with an average actual collection of N102.13 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) against an allowed average tariff of N124.39 per kWh.
The report ranked Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) as the best-performing electricity distribution company in terms of revenue recovery efficiency, posting 102.09 per cent.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) came second with 89.77 per cent, while Ikeja Electric recorded 88.89 per cent.
According to NERC, the three electricity distribution companies posted the highest revenue recovery efficiency among Nigeria’s 11 DisCos in April, underscoring improved commercial performance within the country’s power distribution sector.
