PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointments of Abdulhamid Dembos, Director-General (DG) of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and Ali Mohammed Ali, Managing Director (MD) of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), for another three-year term.
News Point Nigeria reports that the renewal will extend the tenure of both media executives for another three years, following their initial appointments by the President in October 2023.
Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, announced the development in a statement issued on Sunday, saying Dembos and Ali would commence their second term on October 20, 2026.
Tinubu first appointed Dembos and Ali on October 20, 2023, and their renewed appointments will therefore begin on the same date in 2026.
Dembos, who hails from Yola, Adamawa State, is a former national president of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
He previously served as the Executive Director of Marketing at the NTA after his retirement in 2017.
Dembos joined the NTA as an announcer at the Kaduna station after completing his National Youth Service in 1989. He subsequently rose through the ranks and, at various times, served as General Manager at NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.
He retired as the Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre in 2017.
Ali, a veteran journalist and media manager with over 30 years of experience, holds a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Mass Communications from Bayero University.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu urged the two chief executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by continuing to demonstrate commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations.
The President also urged them to sustain their efforts toward promoting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through the platforms under their leadership.
