FORMER Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has appointed Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, into his Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
News Point Nigeria reports that the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, announced El-Rufai’s appointment in a statement on Thursday.
The appointment is part of the campaign structure unveiled by the ADC.
El-Rufai is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he is facing corruption-related charges.
He is facing multiple charges filed by the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Government.
El-Rufai has pleaded not guilty to the charges and has maintained that his prosecution is politically motivated.
The former governor has been in detention since February. The ICPC has said his continued detention is pursuant to court-authorised remand orders.
