KANO State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the release of ₦300 million to support beneficiaries of the state’s Hisbah Mass Wedding Scheme, with each bride set to receive ₦200,000 to assist with the payment of dowry and provide start-up capital.
News Point Nigeria reports that, in addition to the financial support, newly married couples will receive household items and complete furniture to help them establish their homes as part of the state government’s intervention aimed at easing the financial burden of marriage.
The Commander of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, disclosed this on Thursday during a pre-marital orientation programme for prospective couples held at the Coronation Hall of the Government House in Kano.
Daurawa explained that the financial assistance would be paid directly into the individual bank accounts of beneficiaries after they open personal accounts.
He added that the state government would also provide complete household furniture for the newly married couples, while each groom would receive 10 yards of fabric, a cap, a pair of shoes and food items in line with Governor Yusuf’s directive.
According to him, the intervention is designed to reduce the financial pressure associated with marriage and provide the couples with a stable foundation for family life.
The Hisbah commander further announced that the Kano State Government would host a grand wedding reception for the beneficiaries on Saturday at the Government House.
He said prominent Islamic scholars from across the country are expected to attend the event and offer prayers for the newly married couples.
Daurawa urged the prospective husbands to treat their wives with love, fairness and a sense of responsibility, while advising the brides to exercise patience and remain supportive as they build their families together.
He also stressed the importance of resolving marital disputes through dialogue and reconciliation rather than separation.
“The Hisbah Board does not encourage divorce without reconciliation. Any marital disagreement should first be brought before the Board for mediation before any further action is taken,” Daurawa said.
He further appealed to beneficiaries of previous editions of the Hisbah Mass Wedding Scheme to attend Saturday’s reception, noting that their presence would encourage the new couples and reinforce the objectives of the initiative.
