THE Jigawa State Government has strengthened the operational capacity of the State Hisbah Command with the donation of one Hilux vehicle to each of its 27 Local Government Area command offices, as part of efforts to ensure that effective Hisbah operations reach the nooks and crannies of the state.
News Point Nigeria reports that the 27 vehicles were formally presented to the Local Government Area commands at the State Hisbah Command Headquarters in Dutse by the Commandant-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr Fa’iz Bashir Haroun.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr Fa’iz said the vehicles were purchased and donated to the Hisbah Board by the Jigawa State Government to enhance, strengthen and boost the morale of Hisbah guards in the discharge of their operational duties.
He said that with the formal presentation of the vehicles, each of the 27 Local Government Area commands had been directed to commence operational duties with immediate effect within their respective areas of jurisdiction.
The Commandant-General said hideouts where immoral acts were allegedly being perpetrated should be identified in each local government, with a view to ensuring sanity and inculcating moral behaviour for a free and decent society.
Dr Fa’iz warned the recipients against using the vehicles for purposes contrary to those for which they were provided, stressing that only officers in uniform were legally permitted to use them during patrol operations.
He commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his administration’s unflinching support for the Jigawa State Hisbah Command, which, he said, had strengthened the Board morally and enabled it to discharge its responsibilities more effectively.
The Hisbah boss also tasked zonal officers of the command to strictly monitor the use of the vehicles in their respective Local Government Area command offices, expressing hope that the intervention would bring about positive changes in Hisbah operations across the state.
Dr Fa’iz explained that the primary responsibility of Hisbah was to prevent immoral acts and inculcate moral behaviour in order to promote a free and decent society.
He reaffirmed that the Hisbah Command would continue to cooperate with other security agencies in Jigawa State as part of efforts to make the state safer, more secure and free from immoral behaviour.
The Commandant-General later handed over the keys of the vehicles, alongside all necessary office working materials, to the Local Government Area command officers.
He also appreciated the support and cooperation of members of the press for their role in giving publicity to the activities of the Hisbah Command across Jigawa State.
