THE Kano State House of Assembly has set up a committee to screen Hon. Murtala Sule Garo, Deputy Governor nominee.
News Point Nigeria had reported how Governor Abba Kabir forwarded the name of Garo to the lawmakers, on Tuesday.
The nomination, contained in a letter addressed to the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore, was read on the floor of the House during plenary on Wednesday.
The governor said the nomination was made pursuant to Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), following the resignation of the former deputy governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
He noted that Garo’s emergence followed wide consultations across the state, describing him as a seasoned administrator with vast experience in governance.
According to the governor, Garo had previously served as Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano chapter, as well as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Yusuf expressed confidence that the nominee’s experience, loyalty and understanding of Kano’s political landscape would enhance governance and service delivery in the state.
He urged the Assembly to expedite action on the nomination to enable the smooth running of government.
Following the reading of the letter, the Speaker announced the constitution of an ad hoc committee to screen the nominee.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, comprises the Majority Leader, Chief Whip, Deputy Majority Leader, Majority Whip, and members representing Fagge, Sumaila, Warawa, Dawakin Kudu and Tudun Wada constituencies, among others.
The committee is expected to invite the nominee for screening and report back to the House on Monday.
