THE President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State over the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Muhammad Sani II.
News Point Nigeria reports that the late monarch died in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after nearly 46 years on the throne, having ascended the Gumel Emirate stool on December 16, 1980. He was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers.
In a statement personally signed and issued to newsmen by Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the MAAUN president described the late Emir as a widely loved and respected traditional ruler who enjoyed the loyalty and affection of his people throughout his 46-year reign.
“A leader who is loved this way by his people after more than 46 years on the throne says a lot about his good leadership, commitment and service to the people. This is worthy of emulation by all traditional rulers and those entrusted with positions of authority,” Gwarzo said.
“On behalf of myself and the entire MAAUN community, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and good people of Jigawa State, particularly the people of the Gumel Emirate, over the passing of the revered Emir.”
He said the death of the traditional ruler had created a huge vacuum that could not be filled easily, describing his passing as a significant loss to the people he served and the wider traditional institution.
“His death has created a huge vacuum that cannot be filled easily. May Allah SWT forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and admit him into Aljannatul Firdaus,” he prayed.
Gwarzo also prayed for Allah to grant the family of the late Emir, the Gumel Emirate and the people of Jigawa State the fortitude to bear the loss.
The late Emir’s nearly 46-year reign was marked by decades of political and social change, while national tributes have highlighted his contributions to peacebuilding, education, community development and the preservation of cultural values.
The MAAUN president’s condolence message adds to the growing tributes from political leaders, traditional institutions and prominent Nigerians mourning the death of the revered monarch.
