POPULAR Islamic scholar, Sheikh Musa Lukwa, was stabbed by one of the worshippers on Friday afternoon shortly after the Juma’at prayers at the Mabera area of Sokoto metropolis.
News Point Nigeria reports that worshippers immediately carried out mob action against the alleged perpetrator following the incident, resulting in his death.
Confirming the incident, the Sokoto State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Rufa’i, said the command was aware of the unfortunate development.
DSP Rufa’i, however, said investigation had commenced to unravel the full details of what transpired, promising to keep journalists posted as more information becomes available.
Recall that Sheikh Musa Lukwa was recently reported to have been threatened by a well-known hoodlum leader, Dahiru Shehu Maibarewa, over alleged blasphemous remarks.
The hoodlum leader, Maibarewa, was said to have expressed dissatisfaction with the Islamic scholar, leading to speculations about a threat to his life.
Maibarewa was reportedly taken to prison following the incident.
A few weeks after that development, a video went viral on social media showing Sheikh Musa Lukwa going to his mosque with a pump-action gun as a warning against any attempt on his life.
At the time of filing this report, Sheikh Musa Lukwa was said to be receiving treatment at a hospital within the metropolis following the stabbing.
Although officials refused to disclose the hospital where he was taken for security reasons, sources confirmed that the Islamic scholar was responding to treatment.
