THE Rivers State Government has cancelled the Independence Day parade scheduled to mark Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, in line with the approach adopted by the Federal Government for this year’s celebration.
The state government, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, said
News Point Nigeria reports that the anniversary would instead be observed in a modest and purposeful manner.
The government said the decision was taken to reflect the solemnity of the occasion and the shared responsibility of building a stronger Nigeria.
It congratulated the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at home and abroad on the 66th Independence anniversary, urging them to mark the occasion with patriotism, reflection and renewed commitment to peace, unity and progress.
The statement wished Nigerians a happy 66th Independence anniversary.
