THE Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has announced the seizure of contraband goods worth over N1.4 billion, including a Rolls-Royce Ghost 2021 model with a duty paid value of N905 million.
News Point Nigeria reports that the Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing held at Idiroko, Ogun State.
According to him, the seizures, made in July 2025, were part of the command’s relentless efforts to clamp down on smugglers and protect Nigeria’s economy from saboteurs.
Among the intercepted items were three exotic vehicles: 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost – duty paid value: N905 million, 2014 Mercedes Benz 4MATIC, duty paid value: N21,423,400 and 2018 Honda Accord, duty paid value: N32.2 million
Other items seized included: 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice (equivalent to over 7 truckloads), 1,936 parcels of cannabis sativa (marijuana) and 105 used tyres. The total duty paid value (DPV) of the seizures stood at N1,401,531,923.95.
Otunla also revealed that the command generated N45,054,191.00 in July 2025, a 27.47% increase compared to the N35,327,852.00 collected in July 2024.
He attributed the growth to enhanced compliance drives, improved border surveillance, and robust stakeholder engagement.
“This remarkable growth is a reflection of our enhanced compliance drive, improved monitoring of border activities and robust stakeholder engagement,” Otunla said.
As part of inter-agency collaboration, the command handed over the seized cannabis to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, Ekundayo Williams, for further investigation and necessary action.
Otunla stressed that the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking requires a collective effort, reaffirming the Customs’ commitment to collaboration, intelligence sharing, and innovation under the policy direction of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
The Controller issued a stern warning to smugglers, pledging that the Customs would continue to frustrate their efforts.
“We remain vigilant, resolute, and unyielding. No matter the sophistication of your tricks, our officers will continue to thwart your antics, and we shall bring the full weight of the law against you,” he declared.
Otunla commended the resilience of Customs operatives, the support of other security agencies, and the cooperation of patriotic members of border communities who provide intelligence to aid operations.
The Ogun 1 Command’s latest seizures underscore the high stakes of anti-smuggling operations along Nigeria’s porous borders, where luxury cars, drugs, rice, and other contrabands are routinely intercepted in multi-billion naira busts.
