THE Department of State Services (DSS) has interrogated former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), over the violent attack on his convoy in Birnin Kebbi earlier this month.
News Point Nigeria reports that Malami, who now leads the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State, confirmed on Monday night that he was questioned at the Birnin Kebbi Command of the DSS in connection with the September 1, 2025 incident, where his convoy was ambushed by suspected political thugs.
The former minister’s entourage was targeted shortly after he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Imam of Dr. Bello Haliru Jumu’ah Mosque. The attack left about 10 vehicles vandalised and several of his supporters injured, sparking outrage among political observers.
Malami described the session with DSS operatives as professional and transparent, noting that he was treated with dignity throughout the exercise.
“I can confirm that I have been invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) to support investigation over the attack on my person and convoy in Kebbi State on the 1st of September, 2025. I must commend the DSS for the professional and transparent manner in which they have conducted their inquiry,” he said.
“I was treated with dignity and respect and I remain committed to cooperating fully with the Department to ensure that their investigation is concluded successfully,” Malami added.
The ex-minister has consistently maintained that the attack was politically motivated, accusing unnamed opponents of orchestrating the violence to intimidate him and his supporters.
While the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi has distanced itself from the incident, Malami formally petitioned both the Nigeria Police Force and the DSS, demanding a thorough probe into what he described as a “dangerous escalation of political thuggery.”
Although the DSS has not yet released an official statement on the interrogation, security sources told this newspaper that the agency is intensifying its investigation to identify the masterminds behind the assault.
For now, the former AGF says he will continue to cooperate with security agencies to ensure justice for his supporters and accountability for those behind the convoy attack.
