KANO State High Court has granted an order directing all parties involved in a legal dispute between Prime College, Kano, and the Kano State Government to maintain the status quo pending further hearing.
The ruling was delivered on Thursday, September 25, 2025, by Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar of High Court No. 17, Miller Road, Kano.
Recalls that the case, filed under Suit No. K/831/2025 names the Governor of Kano State, the Attorney General, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KPVIB), and its Executive Secretary, Comrade Baba Abubakar UmaR, as respondents.
The court’s decision followed the presentation of an ex-parte motion filed by the applicant on September 22, 2025, supported by a 43-paragraph affidavit sworn by Mallam Musbahu Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer of Prime College.
Recalls that a Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Gyadi Gyadi in Kano metropolis has vacated an order closing Prime College.
The presiding magistrate, Fauziyya Sheshe, on Monday ordered the reopening of the school with immediate effect.
It be recall that the Magistrate Court had, on 16th September, in a suit filed by Kano State Private and Institutions Board against Prime College, ordered a perpetual injunction pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice.
The applicant, Prime College, was represented in court by Barrister Abdulhafeez D. Khalid Esq.
Justice Abubakar ordered that all parties preserve the current state of affairs until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The court also set October 7, 2025, for the hearing of the motion, with notice to be served to all respondents.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions between private educational institutions and state authorities over regulatory oversight, with Prime College seeking judicial intervention to protect its operations.
