THE Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Hilux and arrested a female suspect, said to be on her way to smuggle the vehicle out of the country.
The police said the recovery followed a swift intelligence-led operation by its Special Intervention Squad (SIS), which intercepted the suspect along Airport Road in Nassarawa Local Government Area on October 6, 2025.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa seen by News Point Nigeria, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Adama Hassan from Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State, was caught attempting to conceal the stolen vehicle, which was allegedly being transported to the Niger Republic.
According to the statement, the Toyota Hilux with registration number GWA 998 AR had been reported stolen on September 29, 2025, from Ikeja Road in Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
“The suspect confessed to receiving the vehicle from a male accomplice from Lafiyan Lamurde LGA, Adamawa State, who is currently at large,” the statement read.
Kiyawa noted that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover more stolen items connected to the crime.
The Command commended the professionalism of the officers involved in the operation and appreciated the residents for their cooperation and timely information that led to the breakthrough.
“We urge the good people of Kano State to continue to observe personal safety and report any suspicious movement or criminal activity to the nearest police station,” the statement added.
Kiyawa reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, assuring residents that the police would not relent in bringing criminals to justice.
