THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on Monday paraded a suspected kidnappers’ informant, a drug supplier and two other suspects allegedly linked to kidnapping and banditry activities in Paze-Byazhin, Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
News Point Nigeria reports that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters, where he provided details of the arrests and ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes within the territory.
According to the police commissioner, the arrests followed an anti-kidnapping and rescue operation he personally led on June 9, 2026, in the Paze-Byazhin area of Bwari Area Council.
He explained that a follow-up operation was subsequently carried out on June 11, 2026, during which operatives stormed a suspected banditry and kidnapping hideout within the same area.
The operation led to the arrest of a suspected drug supplier to kidnappers, an alleged informant, and two other suspects believed to be members of a criminal network operating within and around the Federal Capital Territory.
CP Sanusi identified the suspects as Yahaya Abdullahi, Muhammed Yunusa, Hauwa Shafiu and Shamsudeen Mustapha.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were part of a criminal syndicate involved in kidnapping and banditry activities across the FCT and neighbouring areas.
According to him, further investigations revealed that the group had successfully infiltrated and integrated into the local community, enabling its members to gather intelligence and coordinate repeated attacks on targeted individuals and locations.
The police commissioner disclosed that one of the suspects, Hauwa Shafiu, allegedly served as a logistics supplier and cook for the criminal gang and their hostages.
“One of the suspects, a female, Hauwa Shafiu, who operates as a logistics supplier and cook for the criminal gang and their hostages, was heavily pregnant at the time of her arrest. She subsequently delivered a healthy baby while in police custody,” Sanusi stated.
He added that both the mother and the newborn child had received adequate medical care while in custody.
The police also recovered several exhibits believed to be connected to the suspects’ activities.
Items recovered include four motorcycles, 31 tablets of 500mg Tramadol, 10 tablets of 50mg Tramadol, N320,000 cash, five mobile phones, a Point of Sale (POS) machine and various cooking utensils.
The commissioner said investigations were ongoing to uncover other members of the network and determine the full extent of their involvement in kidnapping and banditry operations.
CP Sanusi assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that the command remained committed to dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the territory.
He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
