FORMER Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after honouring an invitation by the anti-graft agency for questioning.
Malami disclosed this in a statement personally signed and posted on his official X handle on Saturday seen by News Point Nigeria, noting that the engagement with investigators was “successful” and that a fresh appointment had been scheduled for continuation of the inquiry.
The former AGF, who has faced multiple allegations relating to his time in office, said he remained calm and confident throughout the process, insisting that the truth behind what he described as “fabricated allegations” would eventually come to light.
“In line with my undertaking to keep Nigerians updated on my invitation by the EFCC, I give glory to Allah for His divine intervention,” Malami wrote.
“The engagement was successful and I am eventually released while on an appointment for further engagement, as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continues to unfold.”
The update followed a similar post on Friday in which the former minister announced that he had been invited by the EFCC and would honour the invitation as a “law-abiding and patriotic citizen.”
Malami said he had formally notified his family and close associates about the EFCC invitation and emphasised his willingness to clarify all issues raised by investigators.
“I am informing my family and friends that EFCC has invited me to clarify some issues, and as a citizen of law and order and patriot, I am willing to honour this invitation without any hesitation,” he said.
He added that ideals of transparency, accountability and responsible governance had guided his actions throughout his years in public office.
“I understand the spirit of accountability and transparency in public service, principles that I both advocate and champion,” he noted.
Reiterating his commitment to ethical leadership, Malami said honesty and integrity remained central to his public service mindset.
“I believe in the importance of honesty and integrity in leadership. These are principles I’ve long supported and upheld over the years I’ve spent in public service,” he stated.
The former minister also promised to keep Nigerians informed as developments unfold, saying transparency is necessary in matters of public interest.
“On this note, I am informing Nigerians of any development that will follow, so that everyone will be aware,” he added.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC had not released details on the nature or scope of the allegations being probed. The former minister, however, has been linked in the past to multiple controversies involving alleged financial misconduct and abuse of office claims he has consistently denied.
