SUPER Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has expressed relief and gratitude after his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars, cleared him of match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation, News Point Nigeria Sport reports.
The club had suspended Obasogie for three months on February 27 after concerns were raised by fans, management and stakeholders over a series of errors in recent matches, including against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup and Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League.
However, in a statement signed by Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Kassano on Saturday, Singida confirmed that its disciplinary committee found “no evidence of match-fixing or gambling” by the goalkeeper, ruling that the incidents which triggered suspicion were simply technical mistakes.
“The incidents that raised the concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game,” the club stated, adding that Obasogie had apologised for the circumstances that gave rise to the allegations and promised to work on his shortcomings.
The three-month suspension was subsequently reversed, and the goalkeeper has been allowed to resume his duties with the team.
Reacting in a video posted on Facebook, Obasogie thanked everyone who stood by him through the ordeal.
“I am so happy everything against the allegation has been resolved. I want to say a big thank you to everybody who stood by me, who wished me well, who prayed for me. I am really happy and grateful everything has been resolved,” he said.
The goalkeeper specifically thanked the Nigeria Football Federation for their belief in him, as well as Philip Shaibu, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, whom he described as a great lover of football.
He also appreciated Bendel Insurance, his family, the media, and his club, Singida, for conducting their investigations and vindicating him.
“I want to say a big thank you to my team, who did their own investigation, found that there was nothing, and decided to vindicate me. The love is so massive,” Obasogie added.
The goalkeeper joined Singida Black Stars in 2025 from Ethiopian side Fasil Kenema and has been a consistent presence at the Super Eagles camp. He was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the team claimed bronze, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho.
Obasogie is the second Nigerian goalkeeper to be caught up in a match-fixing controversy in recent years. In 2025, Maduka Okoye was handed a two-month suspension from football activities in Italy over his involvement in a betting scandal.
