THE Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has disclosed that it is currently reviewing a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to certain parts of its information systems, raising fresh concerns over data protection and digital security.
In a statement sent to News Point Nigeria late on Wednesday, the commission clarified that the breach affected only “limited aspects” of its systems, stressing that immediate steps were taken upon discovery of the intrusion.
“The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is currently reviewing a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorised access to limited aspects of its information systems,” the statement read.
The commission further explained that it promptly activated its response protocols and is now collaborating with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), alongside other relevant government agencies and partners, to fully assess the scope and impact of the incident.
According to CAC, necessary containment measures have already been implemented, with additional safeguards deployed to reinforce the security of its systems and prevent further vulnerabilities.
While investigations are ongoing, the commission advised users of its portal to take precautionary steps to protect their information. It urged stakeholders to closely monitor their records, update their login credentials, and remain vigilant against unsolicited or suspicious communications.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its database, the commission assured users that updates would be provided as more details emerge from the ongoing review.
The development comes shortly after the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) launched a separate investigation on April 5 into an alleged data breach involving Remita Payment Services Ltd., Sterling Bank, and other entities, highlighting growing concerns around data security in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
