FORMER Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has arrived in Ibadan for a high-level summit of opposition political leaders hosted by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
News Point Nigeria reports that his arrival adds to an already formidable gathering of political heavyweights in the city, including former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The summit, currently underway in Ibadan, has attracted a wide spectrum of opposition stakeholders from across the country, reflecting a growing momentum among political actors outside the ruling bloc.
Deliberations at the meeting are expected to focus on pressing national issues, emerging political alignments, and strategic preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Also in attendance are key political figures, including Peter Obi, David Mark, Jerry Gana, factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Saminu Turaki, and political strategist Pat Utomi.
Their convergence underscores the breadth of engagement across various opposition blocs, highlighting the scale and significance of the summit.
The gathering has drawn heightened political attention nationwide, with analysts closely watching for signals of possible coalition-building among opposition parties and influential leaders.
Security has been significantly tightened across key parts of Ibadan as the summit progresses, reflecting both the prominence of the attendees and the sensitivity of the ongoing discussions.
Meanwhile, the outcome of the meeting is widely expected to shape ongoing debates around leadership direction, party strategy, and the broader reconfiguration of opposition politics as Nigeria steadily approaches another crucial electoral cycle in 2027.
