THE Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the appointment of distinguished journalist, lawyer and pro-democracy advocate, Osa Director, as the National Publicity Secretary of the party, alongside the appointments of Peter Agbo Ekele and Lawal Sabo Ibrahim as Deputy National Publicity Secretaries.
The appointments were contained in a press statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Saturday, and signed by the National Working Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the party, the appointments reflect the NDC’s commitment to building what it described as a formidable communication architecture driven by professionalism, integrity, intellectual depth and unwavering dedication to democratic ideals.
The party said Osa Director brings decades of experience spanning journalism, law, media management and democratic advocacy to his new position.
A highly accomplished scholar and public affairs analyst, Osa Director holds degrees in Biochemistry, Management, Law, Media and Communications, and Corporate Governance, in addition to professional certifications from institutions including Cambridge University and Leeds Metropolitan University.
He rose to national prominence during Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle as a journalist with TELL Magazine, one of the country’s most influential media platforms during the military era.
The statement noted that his commitment to democracy and free speech led to his incarceration under the late General Sani Abacha military regime.
The NDC further stated that as co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of INSIDER WEEKLY Magazine, Osa Director played a major role in advancing investigative journalism and public accountability in Nigeria.
The party added that he later established the law firm, Osa Director & Co., thereby expanding his influence in legal practice and public discourse.
He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), African Bar Association (ABA), and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
On Peter Agbo Ekele, the NDC described him as a seasoned journalist and editor with more than a decade of experience in mainstream Nigerian journalism.
A graduate of English Language from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Ekele has served in various editorial capacities, including Reporter, News Editor, Group News Editor and Editor in several prominent media organisations such as New Nigerian, National Accord and LEADERSHIP Newspapers.
The party said Ekele is widely respected for his editorial competence, professionalism and communication skills.
He is also a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The Cabal Newspaper.
The statement further highlighted the credentials of Lawal Sabo Ibrahim, describing him as another respected media professional with extensive experience in journalism, publishing and academia.
Lawal Sabo Ibrahim holds degrees in English Education and English Language from the University of Jos and Bayero University, Kano, respectively.
Over the years, he has served as a Lecturer at Kano State Polytechnic, Editor at Peoples Daily and LEADERSHIP Newspapers, and later as Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of Triumph Publishing Company between 2017 and 2023.
He is also affiliated with notable professional organisations including the International Press Institute (IPI), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
The NDC expressed confidence that the combined experience, intellectual capacity and media expertise of the three appointees would strengthen the party’s engagement with Nigerians and help advance its vision of a democratic, inclusive and prosperous nation.
“The party congratulates the appointees and wishes them success in the discharge of their responsibilities,” the statement added.
