TROOPS of the 82 Division Garrison operating under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA, in collaboration with operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Enugu State Command, have uncovered a suspected arms cache allegedly belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Enugu State.
News Point Nigeria reports that according to the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, the operation was launched following credible intelligence obtained from previously arrested suspects linked to the groups.
He disclosed that a significant cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered during the operation, including General Purpose Machine Guns, an RPG-7 launcher tube, AK-47 rifles, hand grenades, a tear-gas gun with cartridges, AK-47 magazines, 270 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 478 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
Ayeni explained that on June 9, 2026, acting on actionable intelligence derived from arrested suspects allegedly affiliated with IPOB and ESN, security forces conducted a precision follow-up operation at Gariki in Enugu South Local Government Area.
He said troops discovered a clandestine arms hideout concealed inside a zinc structure cleverly disguised as a piggery, adding that a thorough search of the location led to the recovery of the weapons and ammunition.
According to him, the intelligence-driven operation highlights the effectiveness of interagency collaboration in the region and reflects proactive efforts to counter threats to national unity and public safety.
He further noted that Operation UDO KA remains committed to sustained offensive operations against criminal and terrorist networks that threaten peace in the South-East, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
Ayeni added that the recovered weapons and arrested suspects have been handed over to the DSS Enugu State Command for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation UDO KA to protecting citizens and preserving national sovereignty through continued coordinated operations against criminal elements in the region.
