RESIDENTS and businesses across Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe states have been advised to prepare for a temporary electricity disruption on Sunday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) embarks on planned maintenance works aimed at strengthening the national grid.
The development also extends to Gazaoua in the Niger Republic, the company disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah.
According to TCN, the planned outage is necessitated by scheduled maintenance at the Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission substation, where ongoing upgrade works are being carried out to improve power reliability and increase transmission capacity.
The maintenance exercise will allow the company’s contractor to continue upgrading the 330kV Bus II jumpers and replace existing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors, as part of efforts to reinforce and modernise the transmission network.
As a consequence, electricity distribution companies serving the affected areas will be unable to receive bulk power for onward distribution during the maintenance window.
“Consequently, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), as well as parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), will be unable to off-take power for distribution to customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, as well as Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and Gazaoua in the Niger Republic,” the statement read.
TCN assured customers that the temporary disruption is a necessary step to complete critical infrastructure upgrades designed to enhance the stability, reliability, and long-term efficiency of electricity supply across the affected regions.
