THE Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has conferred honorary membership on the President and Founder of MAAUN Group of Universities, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, in recognition of his contributions to higher education, healthcare training and the advancement of Medical Laboratory Science in Nigeria and across Africa.
News Point Nigeria reports that the recognition was also in appreciation of Prof. Gwarzo’s support for the establishment and development of Medical Laboratory Science education at MAAUN in Niger Republic and MAAUN Kano. The association particularly highlighted his support for the Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLSD) programme.
In a letter dated September 4, 2026, the association’s National President, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, said Prof. Gwarzo was nominated by the National Executive Council in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of the profession.
AMLSN said Prof. Gwarzo’s support for the establishment and development of Medical Laboratory Science education at MAAUN in Niger Republic and MAAUN Kano had contributed significantly to the growth of the profession and the training of healthcare professionals.
The association particularly commended his support for the Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (MLSD) programme, describing it as a landmark initiative aimed at strengthening professional capacity, research, innovation and leadership in the profession.
According to AMLSN, Prof. Gwarzo’s commitment to expanding access to quality health sciences education has created opportunities for the training and development of future Medical Laboratory Scientists and other healthcare professionals across Africa.
The recognition comes after the association previously honoured Prof. Gwarzo with a Platinum Medal Award for his contributions to the advancement of Medical Laboratory Science and his support for the development and approval of the Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science curriculum.
His formal investiture as an Honorary Member will take place during AMLSN’s 61st Annual Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting, scheduled for November 4 to 8, 2026, in Minna, Niger State.
The National President of the association, Dr. Casmir Ifeanyi, congratulated Prof. Gwarzo on the recognition and commended his continued support for the Medical Laboratory Science profession in Nigeria.
