THE National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Ramatu Ibrahim as Acting Bursar following the death of the university’s substantive Bursar, Nasir Marafa.
News Point Nigeria reports that the appointment, which took effect immediately, was made following the sudden and untimely death of Marafa, who was reportedly shot while returning from Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
The appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Malam Isa Yuguda, while the announcement was made on Tuesday by the university’s Registrar, Oladipo Ajayi, in a public notice issued by the institution.
According to Ajayi, the appointment was aimed at ensuring continuity, stability and effective leadership in the university’s financial administration at a critical period.
“Mrs Ibrahim, who until her appointment served as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, is an experienced university administrator with extensive knowledge of the university’s financial operations,” the statement reads.
“She has served in various major operational units of the Bursary Department, gaining broad experience in accounting, financial management, treasury operations and related administrative processes.”
The university further noted that, in her immediate past role as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, Ibrahim provided professional leadership and oversight of the university’s treasury operations.
It added that her broad experience across the Bursary Department, coupled with her knowledge of NOUN’s financial systems and institutional processes, positioned her to provide effective leadership and sustain the delivery of efficient, transparent and accountable financial services.
NOUN management expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to discharge the responsibilities of her new office with professionalism, diligence, integrity and a strong sense of institutional responsibility.
The management also mourned the late Marafa, describing him as a dedicated and dependable officer who served the institution with commitment, professionalism and integrity.
It said his contributions to the university’s financial administration and institutional development would be remembered with gratitude and appreciation.
On Sunday, Marafa was shot dead by gunmen while returning from Gusau, according to a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Oladipo Ajayi. The university did not disclose the exact location of the shooting or identify the attackers.
