PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, in a major cabinet reshuffle that also affected the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
News Point Nigeria reports that also affected in the reshuffle is Umar Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The changes were announced in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who confirmed sweeping adjustments to key economic ministries.
According to the memo, Edun has been directed to hand over to Mr Taiwo Oyedele, who is now to assume duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, is expected to take over the strategic portfolio immediately.
In the same vein, Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
The memo further directed Dangiwa to hand over to the Minister of State within the ministry.
It also stated that all handing-over and taking-over processes must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the President’s decision, Akume said the changes were designed to strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as improve the delivery of economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that the President, in approving the reshuffle, has fully exercised the powers conferred on him by Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The statement also conveyed President Tinubu’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation, while wishing them success in their future endeavours.
Akume further assured that the President remains committed to continuous reinvigoration of the cabinet to improve performance and delivery across sectors.
