THE Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy (CFRPA) has filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Kano seeking the disqualification of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the 2027 presidential election over allegations of certificate forgery.
According to court documents seen by News Point Nigeria, the plaintiff alleged that Tinubu presented forged academic certificates from Chicago State University and a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2023 general elections.
The suit, marked FHC/K/CS/312/2026, lists President Tinubu, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Chicago State University as defendants.
In its originating processes, the plaintiff contended that Tinubu never attended Government College Lagos as claimed, arguing that the school was established in 1974, four years after the President allegedly graduated.
The civil society organisation further argued that Tinubu does not possess a valid secondary school certificate, which it described as the minimum constitutional requirement for contesting the office of President.
It also alleged that INEC failed to act on its petition dated June 19, 2026, requesting clarification on Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In its statement of claims, the group referenced the 2023 United States court ruling in In Re: Application of Atiku Abubakar (No. 23 CV 05099), which compelled Chicago State University to release Tinubu’s academic records.
According to the plaintiff, the records released by the university revealed alleged false entries and inconsistencies, including what it described as a forged University of Cambridge General Certificate of Education.
Among the reliefs sought, the plaintiff is asking the court to declare Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate forged, direct INEC to disqualify him from participating in the 2027 presidential election, and order Chicago State University to strike his name from its records.
The group is also seeking a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from uploading Tinubu’s name as a candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
In addition, the plaintiff submitted affidavits of non-multiplicity of action, witness statements, and copies of letters addressed to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, demanding official disclaimers regarding the alleged fake NYSC discharge certificate.
The allegations contained in the suit remain claims by the plaintiff and are yet to be determined by the court. President Tinubu and the other defendants have not, as of the time of filing this report, publicly responded to the fresh suit.
