THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared winners in several federal and state constituency by-elections conducted across different parts of the country on Saturday, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerging as the dominant party in most of the contests.
News Point Nigeria reports that results announced so far indicate that the APC won the majority of the constituencies and senatorial districts contested, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory only in the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election.
The by-elections were conducted to fill vacancies created by deaths, appointments and other developments that left a number of legislative seats vacant across the country.
APC Wins Enugu North Senatorial District
In Enugu State, INEC declared APC candidate Ikeje Asogwa as the winner of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.
Announcing the result, the electoral commission said Asogwa polled 162,360 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Nestor Ezeme of the PDP, who secured 9,299 votes.
The by-election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of former Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 62.
APC Takes Zuru State Constituency Seat in Kebbi
In Kebbi State, INEC declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the APC as the winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election into the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
Aiki scored 4,887 votes to defeat Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who polled 168 votes.
The seat became vacant following the death of former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
APC Victorious in Kano Federal Constituency Poll
In Kano State, the electoral commission also declared Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election.
According to the result announced by INEC, Shuaibu garnered 35,356 votes to defeat Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party, who secured 98 votes.
The by-election was conducted following the death of Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
PDP Retains Rivers South-East Senatorial District
In Rivers State, the PDP recorded its only victory among the results announced so far, as Olaka Nwogu emerged winner of the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election.
Nwogu polled 47,961 votes to defeat Osar Erewari of the APC, who secured 1,647 votes.
The election was held to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Barry Mpigi in February.
APC Wins Ondo South Senatorial District
The APC also secured victory in Ondo State, where Dayo Faduyile won the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.
Faduyile polled 68,474 votes to defeat Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), who scored 1,411 votes.
The senatorial seat became vacant following the appointment of former Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Nasarawa Result Still Pending
Meanwhile, INEC had yet to announce the result of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election as of the time of filing this report.
The poll is being conducted across Nasarawa Eggon, Akwanga and Wamba Local Government Areas to fill the vacant seat left by the late Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who died after a prolonged illness.
With the results already declared, the APC has emerged as the biggest winner in the round of by-elections conducted across the country, strengthening its presence in both the National Assembly and state legislatures, while the PDP retained its foothold in Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
INEC is expected to announce the outstanding Nasarawa North Senatorial District result once collation and verification processes are concluded.
