ABDULAZIZ Umar Ganduje, the eldest son of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has obtained the nomination form to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the National Democratic Congress.
News Point Nigeria reports that Abdulaziz picked the form on Saturday to contest for the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State ahead of the next general election.
The move has drawn political attention due to Abdulaziz’s long-standing affiliation with the Kwankwasiyya political movement despite his father’s influential role in the APC over the years.
Abdulaziz is widely regarded as a loyal ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and has remained politically aligned with the Kwankwasiyya movement for several years.
A viral video circulating online showed Abdulaziz in discussion with Kwankwaso shortly after obtaining the nomination form, where he reportedly briefed the former Kano governor on his political ambition and readiness for the contest ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The development marks another dramatic chapter in the long-running political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso — two influential political figures in Kano whose relationship deteriorated years after working closely together in the state’s political landscape.
Although his father occupied strategic positions within the APC, Abdulaziz has remained politically distant from Ganduje’s camp and has consistently identified himself with the Kwankwasiyya movement.
His political alignment became even more public following his involvement in a controversial dispute with his mother, Hafsat Umar Ganduje, whom he once petitioned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged failed agreement.
Abdulaziz is now seeking to contest for the same federal constituency seat previously contested by his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, in the 2023 elections under the APC platform.
Umar Ganduje, however, lost the election to a candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party despite the political influence wielded by their father, who was serving as governor of Kano State at the time.
The latest development is expected to further reshape political alignments in Kano ahead of future elections, especially within the Kwankwasiyya movement and the opposition landscape in the state.
