THE Lagos Police Command says its operatives have intercepted a truck conveying military camouflage and 80 cartons of “illicit substances” to the South-East, in what authorities described as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal supply networks.
News Point Nigeria reports that speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, Tijani Fatai, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, said the truck was intercepted along the Lekki–Epe corridor while it was heading out of Lagos.
Fatai said the command has commenced an investigation to ascertain the source and intended recipients of the recovered items. He also confirmed that three suspects were arrested in connection with the interception.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the recovered truck was allegedly being used to transport the military camouflage uniforms to the eastern part of the country,” he said.
He added that, “Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, ownership, and intended recipients of the recovered items, as well as establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement and identify other persons connected with the criminal act.”
The police commissioner further disclosed that some foreign nationals were “rescued from possible mob action” in the Epe area of the state.
According to him, the foreign nationals comprise 14 Chadians, nine Burkinabes, four Beninoise, four Malians, two Togolese, two Cameroonians, and one Ghanaian.
He explained that 20 of the individuals entered Nigeria illegally, while 18 were found to be in possession of valid ECOWAS travel documents.
Fatai added that the matter has been referred to the relevant authorities, including embassies and the Nigeria Immigration Service, for further action and documentation.
