Ummita Promised To Marry Me, I spent Over N60m On Her, Chinese Tells Court

THE Chinese national, Geng Quangrong, accused of killing his Nigerian lover, UmmulKulsum Sani Buhari  – Ummita in Kano, open defense by standing as a withness himself.

This came after the plaintiffs finished presenting their evidence before trial judge, Sanusi Ado Maaji, Wednesday.

At the hearing today, Mr Quandong appeared in the court with an interpreter, Guo Cumru, a fellow Chinese national who interpreted his narration from Mandarin to English.

Geng told the court how he met Ummulkhuksum, stating that the deceased was introduced to him through her friend and she reached out to him, and their relationship was mutual as Ummita loved him dearly.

“However, after I have spent so much money on her, I found out that she was engaged and married off to someone else without my knowledge. But after a while, she continued calling me and asking me for money”, the Chinese national told the Court.

“From the time, we met in Delta to the time she lost her life, I spent over N60 million on her. I have bank statements and transfer receipts to support this claim. There is a car and a land I also bought for her too, Mr Geng added.

“Not long ago, I gave her another 10 million naira, which she bought a land in Abuja and she started developing the land. It’s surprising when her witnesses claimed she didn’t collect a dime from me.

“On 13th September, she asked me for money to finish her house in Abuja, and I told her I don’t have money, and that angered her.  So she stopped picking my calls, saying that I am stingy now and I don’t spend money on her anymore.

“And after a few days, she told me that she has found someone, she loved him and even sent me picture  of them together and that really got me angry but I will never hurt Ummita because I loved her so much”, he concluded.

Speaking after the court session, Hajiya Aisha Mahmoud, a director at the state ministry of justice, said, Mr Geng’s lawyers have asked to call on Late Ummita’s mother and the prosecuting police on the next sitting.

The court sitting was adjourned to Thursday, January 12th by 12pm.
