UNIVERSITY of Jos (UNIJOS) has emerged as the highest beneficiary at the sixth edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit (NATAP-M) Awards organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), securing a ₦500 million award for outstanding performance in Nigeria’s admission system.
News Point Nigeria reports that the award ceremony was held alongside the 2026 Admission Policy Meeting in Abuja on Monday, May 11, 2026.
According to information released by the institution, the University of Jos distinguished itself across several key performance indicators assessed by JAMB during the evaluation process.
The university ranked first in the admission of international students, second in compliance with JAMB admission policies, and sixth in the national spread of admitted students. These achievements positioned the institution as the overall highest recipient at the national awards ceremony.
Other institutions recognised during the event included Ahmadu Bello University, which received ₦40 million, alongside University of Ilorin, Akwa Ibom State University, and Lagos State University, each of which received ₦25 million.
JAMB introduced the NATAP-M Awards as part of efforts to promote transparency, merit, compliance, and excellence in admissions into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Speaking while presenting the award to members of management, deans, and directors on May 14, 2026, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos attributed the achievement to the commitment and dedication of the institution’s staff.
The Vice Chancellor further described the recognition as a benchmark for greater excellence and urged staff members to sustain the university’s high standards.
The statement announcing the achievement was signed by Emmanuel Madugu, Deputy Registrar and member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (ANIPR).
