Obasanjo, Abdulsalami, Governors To Attend Sule Lamido’s Book Launch

FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar; governors are among those expected to grace the unveiling of the Political Memoir of former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido.

    BORNO PATRIOTS

The book entitled, “Being True to Myself,” is a political memoir by Lamido, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and will be formally presented to the public in Abuja next week.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Senator Mustapha Khabeeb, described the event as one that will “unbundle the real story of Nigeria’s political trajectory”—from the tail end of the Second Republic, through the military era, to the birth and evolution of the Fourth Republic.”

He said the event will be chaired by formerGeneral Abdulsalami (rtd), with Obasanjo serving as Special Guest of Honour.

Senator Khabeeb also said the book would be reviewed by former Senate President and former National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Explaining what readers are to expect, the Chairman said the autobiography offers a rare insider’s account of the dramatic twists, betrayals, and power struggles that have shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey, adding that it is “a political compendium capturing the soul of Nigeria’s governance and democratic history.”

He further noted that the book delves deep into Lamido’s evolution as a political actor, public servant, and elder statesman.

“The memoir is expected to shed light on his role in major political developments, including his involvement in the June 12 movement, the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his tenure as Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Obasanjo—who also wrote the foreword and will be present at the event.”

Senator Khabeeb highlighted Lamido’s unwavering commitment to political ideals, noting that his two-term governorship of Jigawa State brought transformative change despite intense opposition and politically motivated legal battles.

“He was tried, alongside his sons, for seven years on trumped-up charges and was ultimately vindicated. That’s a story worth telling,” he said.
