Bandits Kill Security Operatives In Deadly Ambush On Niger Rep’s Convoy

THE House of Representatives has strongly condemned the deadly ambush on the convoy of Hon. Jafaru Mohammed Ali, lawmaker representing Borgu and Agwara Federal Constituency of Niger State, which claimed the lives of security operatives assigned to protect him.

    His Royal Highness

News Point Nigeria gathered that the attack, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, took place along the Lumma–Babanna Road in Borgu Local Government Area, a route increasingly notorious for bandit incursions and cross-border movements from neighbouring Benin Republic.

The lawmaker was reportedly travelling for a constituency engagement when the heavily armed attackers struck between 1:00pm and 2:00pm, unleashing gunfire on his convoy as it approached the border community of Babanna.

A statement sent to News Point Nigeria on Friday by the Spokesperson of the House, Akin Rotimi, confirmed that the bandits killed several security personnel, injured Ali’s driver and aides, and left multiple vehicles riddled with bullets.

“The House deeply mourns the brave operatives who paid the supreme price in the line of duty and extends heartfelt condolences to their families, the security agencies, and the good people of Niger State,” the statement read.

Rotimi stressed that the location of the attack underscores the dedication of lawmakers who traverse remote and dangerous terrains to meet the needs of their constituents.

The House described the incident as “cowardly, tragic and unacceptable” and urged security agencies to launch an extensive manhunt for the perpetrators and ensure they are brought to justice.

    Happy Birthday

Lawmakers also reaffirmed their legislative commitment to supporting ongoing counterterrorism operations to address the worsening insecurity affecting communities in Niger and other northern states.

Niger State has witnessed a troubling escalation in armed violence this year, especially in rural districts with porous borders.

Nigerian TAX Reform - Federal Goverment

September 17, 2025: 22 villagers were massacred during a baptism ceremony in the western part of the state, in an attack linked to jihadist elements operating near the Burkina Faso and Mali borders.

June 2025: At least 17 soldiers were killed in a firefight with bandits in Bangi, a hub for criminal gangs notorious for kidnappings and cattle rustling.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives is calling for urgent reinforcement of military operations in the affected regions to restore peace and protect law-abiding citizens.
