THE Federal Government has inaugurated Dr. Musa Babayo as the new Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), signaling what officials described as a fresh phase of innovation, transparency, and accelerated road maintenance across the country.
News Point Nigeria reports that the inauguration, held Wednesday at the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja, was performed by the Minister of State for Works and Supervising Minister of FERMA, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who described Babayo as a seasoned technocrat with a distinguished record in public service.
Goronyo said Babayo’s leadership at the former Education Trust Fund (ETF) and later the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) played a key role in strengthening Nigeria’s educational infrastructure, reflecting his competence, integrity, and commitment to national development.
“His track record of transparency, excellence, and national service assures us that he has the capacity to lead FERMA into a new era of efficiency and performance,” the minister stated.
The minister charged the new chairman to provide strategic direction and effective oversight for FERMA, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Goronyo emphasized that FERMA must evolve into a modern, technology-driven agency capable of delivering quicker, smarter, and more sustainable road solutions.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engr. Olufunsho Adebiyi, highlighted the central role of the road sector in economic growth, trade, and national security.
He stressed the need for closer synergy between the ministry and FERMA to address Nigeria’s persistent road maintenance challenges.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Babayo thanked the Federal Government for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to reposition FERMA through innovation, strategic partnerships, and responsible resource management.
“We shall deploy every available resource, explore innovations, and invest in technology through sustainable funding,” he said.
“With these efforts, engineers will engineer, contractors will deliver, and Nigerians will appreciate the performance of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
He also vowed to uphold strict accountability and transparency in FERMA’s financial operations, while strengthening engagement with the National Assembly to improve funding and operational capacity.
FERMA’s Managing Director/CEO, in a vote of thanks, welcomed Dr. Babayo and expressed optimism that his broad experience across public and private sectors would boost the agency’s mandate and overall efficiency.
The ceremony was attended by FERMA board members, directors from the Federal Ministry of Works, FERMA directors, and other dignitaries.
