PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are expected to spend a combined total of ₦9.36 billion on local and international travels, as well as food and catering services, in the 2026 fiscal year, according to details contained in the proposed 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The figures are contained in the budget documents released on Thursday by the Budget Office of the Federation sighted by News Point Nigeria, following the presentation of the ₦58.18 trillion budget proposal to a joint session of the National Assembly by President Tinubu on December 19, 2025.
In his budget address, Tinubu said national security would remain the cornerstone of economic growth, investment attraction and social stability, a priority reflected in the allocations to key sectors.
A breakdown of the 2,790-page budget document shows that the President alone is projected to spend ₦7.01 billion on local and foreign travels in 2026, while ₦431.62 million has been earmarked for foodstuffs, catering materials, refreshments and meals.
Vice President Shettima is also expected to incur ₦1.73 billion on local and international travels, in addition to ₦186.03 million allocated for food and catering-related expenses.
Further details indicate that President Tinubu’s travel budget includes ₦873.89 million for local trips and a significantly higher ₦6.14 billion for foreign travels. For the Vice President, ₦417.49 million is budgeted for local travels, while ₦1.31 billion is set aside for international trips.
Beyond travel and feeding costs, the budget proposal shows that the President is expected to spend ₦65.77 million on honoraria and sitting allowances. In addition, ₦895 million has been earmarked for the purchase of library books and equipment within the Presidency.
Capital expenditures under the President’s office include ₦179 million for the purchase of vehicles, ₦778.6 million for office furniture and fittings, and ₦1.34 million for health and medical equipment.
The document also reveals that ₦89.5 million has been allocated for the ongoing procurement of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for both the President and the Vice President.
At the broader national level, the proposed 2026 budget allocates ₦3.2 trillion to Defence, ₦2.3 trillion to Education, ₦2.1 trillion to Health and Social Welfare, ₦1.4 trillion to Agriculture and Food Security, and ₦1 trillion to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Senate on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, passed the Appropriation Bill for second reading, paving the way for clause-by-clause consideration and scrutiny by lawmakers in the coming weeks.
