SECURITY forces have rescued 10 of the 15 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Kogi State on Friday.
News Point Nigeria reports that the victims were rescued on Monday at Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Michael Onoja, disclosed.
Onoja made the disclosure while speaking at a briefing for journalists at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), where he said the operation was still ongoing to rescue the remaining five victims and apprehend the kidnappers responsible for the abduction.
The NYSC members were abducted on Friday while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State after completing their orientation camp.
According to Onoja, security forces have continued operations in the area as efforts intensify to locate and rescue the remaining victims while also tracking down the perpetrators.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, while calling on them to promptly report any suspicious activity or information that could assist security forces in rescuing the remaining victims and arresting those behind the abduction.
This newspaper reports that the kidnappers had demanded N20 million in ransom from the families of some of the victims.
The latest development comes as security agencies intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities along major travel routes and forest corridors across the country.
