FORMER Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has claimed his first piece of silverware with Qatari giants Al Ahli, marking a memorable start to his time at the club.
News Point Nigeria Sport reports that Al Ahli lifted the UAE-Qatar Super Cup Challenge Cup after defeating UAE side Al Jazira in a tense penalty shootout on Sunday night at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
The match ended level after regulation time, with Al Ahli eventually triumphing 4–3 on penalties to secure the title in dramatic fashion.
Although Troost-Ekong did not feature in the encounter, the victory came shortly after the 32-year-old defender completed his move to Al Ahli from Saudi Arabian club Al Kholood, making the triumph a symbolic and encouraging milestone in his new journey.
The experienced centre-back recently signed a contract with the Doha-based club that runs until June 2028, underlining Al Ahli’s long-term faith in his quality, experience, and leadership.
Troost-Ekong has been a key figure for Nigeria’s national team over the years, serving as Super Eagles captain and earning praise for his composure, aerial strength, and organisational skills at the back.
His club career has also seen him feature across Europe and the Middle East, with notable spells at Watford, Udinese, Fenerbahçe, and in Saudi Arabia.
Al Ahli are expected to benefit significantly from his arrival, with the Nigerian international set to add stability and leadership to the club’s defence as they target sustained success in domestic and regional competitions.
