REAL Madrid coach José Mourinho has revealed how he tried to convince Brazilian forward Vinícius Jr to remain at Real Madrid, telling the winger that leaving the Spanish giants for Arsenal would not be worth it.
News Point Nigeria reports that Mourinho said he personally called Vinícius and asked him where he could possibly go after becoming so familiar with life and football at Real Madrid.
As reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X on Wednesday, the Portuguese coach recalled his conversation with the Brazilian star.
“I called Vini Jr and told him: Vini, where do you want to go? You only know Real Madrid,” Mourinho said.
The Portuguese coach explained that Vinícius might only fully appreciate the magnitude and significance of Real Madrid if he eventually left the club.
“When you leave, then you’ll know what Real Madrid is,” Mourinho said.
Mourinho then issued a direct warning to the Brazilian forward, urging him not to consider leaving the Spanish giants.
“Don’t go.”
He further insisted that a move away from Real Madrid would not be worthwhile for Vinícius.
“It’s not worth it!” the Portuguese coach added.
Vinícius has developed into one of Real Madrid’s leading attacking players since joining the club, playing a key role in the team’s successes and establishing himself as one of the most influential footballers in world football.
The Brazilian winger has now signed a new six-year contract with the Spanish giants, bringing an end to speculation surrounding his future amid reported interest from Premier League side Arsenal.
