FORMER Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) following fresh court proceedings in Kaduna.
News Point Nigeria reports that the former governor was re-arraigned on Tuesday after his temporary release on March 27, 2026, which was granted on compassionate grounds to enable him attend the burial of his late mother.
El-Rufai’s legal challenges took a new turn as he first appeared before a Kaduna State High Court over a separate set of charges filed by the anti-graft agency.
However, proceedings at the State High Court could not go on as scheduled due to the absence of a co-defendant in the matter. The development forced the court to adjourn the case until April 10, 2026.
Following the adjournment, the former governor was moved to the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application in an earlier case was expected to be heard.
Prior to Tuesday’s proceedings, the Federal High Court had fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of El-Rufai’s bail application.
The former governor is facing multiple charges brought by the ICPC, including allegations linked to abuse of office and financial misconduct during his tenure.
His re-arraignment and continued detention underscore the intensifying legal battle, which has attracted widespread public attention given his high political profile.
At the conclusion of Tuesday’s court activities, El-Rufai was returned to ICPC custody, where he is expected to remain pending further court decisions, particularly on his bail application.
His brief release last week had sparked reactions across political and legal circles, especially as it came despite an existing remand order, with the anti-graft agency citing humanitarian considerations.
