PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs following the resignation of Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down from office to participate in the 2027 elections.
According to a statement sent to News Point Nigeria by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy on Tuesday, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will now head the ministry as substantive minister.
In the same vein, President Tinubu nominated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as the new Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Until his nomination, Ambassador Enikanolaiye, who hails from Kogi State, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations.
The Presidency described Enikanolaiye as a distinguished diplomat and seasoned public servant with more than three decades of exemplary service in Nigeria’s foreign service.
He previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also held several key diplomatic postings in Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London and New Delhi.
President Tinubu said the appointments formed part of ongoing efforts by his administration to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, strategic engagement and stronger global partnerships.
The President congratulated the appointees and urged them to work diligently in promoting Nigeria’s national interest and advancing the country’s economic diplomacy objectives.
He also charged them to foster regional stability and safeguard the welfare of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
