SUPER Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen has praised fellow Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey and Argentine international Cristian Romero, describing them as two of the toughest defenders he has faced in his career.
Osimhen, who has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards, commended the physicality, aggression and defensive intelligence of both players while reflecting on difficult matchups during recent interviews.
The Nigerian striker said Bassey’s strength and pace make him one of the hardest defenders to play against, particularly because of their familiarity from international football.
Speaking during a recent interview with River Rhodes monitored by News Point Nigeria Sport on Wednesday, Osimhen said, “Calvin is very strong, very fast, and difficult to beat in one-on-one situations.
“He understands my style because we play together for Nigeria, so it is always a tough battle whenever we face each other.”
Osimhen also singled out Romero for praise, describing the Argentine World Cup winner as an aggressive and tactically aware defender who constantly puts attackers under pressure.
“Romero is another really tough defender,” he said.
“He is aggressive, always focused, and doesn’t give strikers time on the ball.”
The striker has faced several elite defenders during his spells with clubs in France, Italy and European competitions, where he established himself as one of the continent’s leading forwards.
Osimhen’s remarks come amid another impressive season in Europe, with the Nigerian forward continuing to attract interest from several top clubs following his consistent goal-scoring performances.
Meanwhile, Bassey has continued to enhance his reputation for both club and country with his versatility across the defensive line, while Romero remains a key figure for Tottenham Hotspur and the Argentina national football team.
