A FIRE outbreak occurred on Thursday at a multi-storey building housing a Polaris Bank branch on Broad Street in Lagos, triggering concern among residents, business owners, and passersby in the area.
News Point Nigeria reports that videos shared on social media showed thick smoke billowing from the building as residents and business owners gathered around the scene to observe developments.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, were immediately deployed to the location to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.
As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had yet to be determined.
Reacting to the incident, Polaris Bank, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the fire affected the car park of its Broad Street branch and was swiftly brought under control.
The bank noted that there were no casualties or fatalities, adding that emergency responders acted promptly to bring the situation under control.
“Following the fire incident at the Car Park of our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, we are pleased to confirm that the situation was swiftly contained and, thankfully, there were no casualties or fatalities,” the statement read.
“We appreciate the prompt response of emergency services.”
Polaris Bank also dismissed reports claiming that 34 people lost their lives in the incident, describing such reports as misleading.
The bank further urged members of the public to disregard unverified reports circulating on social media and rely only on information obtained from credible news platforms and its official communication channels.
“We urge the public to rely only on credible news platform and our official channels for accurate information and disregard false reports circulating online,” the statement added.
