PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu is expected to unveil a commemorative book in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, as family members, close associates, public officials, and admirers prepare for a series of interfaith and interdenominational prayers marking the first anniversary of his passing.
News Point Nigeria reports that the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists on the activities lined up for the memorial.
Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82.
Mustapha said the memorial programme scheduled for July 13 would bring together Buhari’s family, friends, associates, government officials, and well-wishers to honour his memory, offer prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul, and reflect on the ideals of unity, faith, and national cohesion that defined his years in public service.
According to him, the event will be centred on interfaith and interdenominational prayers, reflecting the values of unity, faith, and national cohesion that Buhari upheld throughout his life and public service. He added that selected individuals who worked closely with the late president would also speak on his legacy and share personal experiences.
Mustapha further announced that a book of tributes titled Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari will be publicly presented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will serve as Special Guest of Honour. He noted that the volume captures global reactions to Buhari’s passing, including tributes from heads of state, diplomats, and political leaders, describing him as a man of simplicity, resilience, integrity, and humility.
He also clarified that the publication is not intended for sale or fundraising, but will be distributed freely.
Reflecting on Buhari’s death at 82, Mustapha said the world had continued to honour his life for his humility and the inspiration he provided through his leadership and public service.
The former SGF called on Nigerians to pray for the late president in their places of worship, expressing hope that the commemoration would strengthen national unity and bring comfort to his family, friends, and admirers.
He added that religious leaders across different faiths would lead prayers during the ceremony, stressing that the occasion was designed not only to honour Buhari’s memory but also to inspire national reflection and unity.
Mustapha also appealed to the media to support the commemoration by publicising the event nationwide, encouraging Nigerians to participate through prayers in their respective places of worship for the repose of Buhari’s soul and for national unity.
