FORMER First Lady and wife of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha Buhari, on Wednesday visited former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, at his residence in Abuja.
News Point Nigeria reports that Atiku disclosed the visit in a statement shared on his social media platforms, describing the former First Lady’s visit as warm and deeply appreciated, while using the occasion to highlight the hardship being experienced by Nigerians and the need to prioritise the welfare, dignity and future of the people.
“Today, I was delighted to receive former First Lady, H.E. Aisha Buhari. Her visit was warm and deeply appreciated. Beyond the courtesies of the occasion, it was also a reminder of the urgent responsibility before all who seek a better Nigeria: to put the welfare, dignity and future of our people first,” Atiku wrote.
The former Vice President said the visit also came at a time when families across the country were struggling with rising costs of basic necessities, including food, transportation, education and healthcare.
He said, “across our country, families are being stretched by the rising cost of food, transport, education, healthcare and other basic necessities.
“Nigerians deserve an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope. That is the Nigeria we must build together, a country that works for its people again.”
Atiku further promised that he was committed to easing the burden on Nigerians, restoring hope and making the country more affordable for its citizens.
“We must ease the burden, restore hope and Make Nigeria Affordable Again,” he said.
The former Vice President had earlier said the country must build an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope.
He described this as the Nigeria that must be built collectively, stressing that the country must once again work for its people.
Aisha Buhari, who is a strong supporter of President Bola Tinubu, was accompanied by one of her daughters and some associates during the visit.
Atiku, however, did not disclose the reason for the former First Lady’s visit, and the motive of the meeting had not been ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
The visit comes more than a year after the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on July 13, 2025.
Following his death, Aisha and members of her family relocated from Daura, his hometown in Katsina State, to the family’s residence in Ungwan Rimi GRA, Kaduna, in late July 2025.
Yusuf Buhari, son of the late President, won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary in May for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat in Katsina.
