THE Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Dawanau, Associate Professor Auwal Sani Salihu, has facilitated the inauguration and induction of the hospital’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), in a move aimed at strengthening institutional integrity and promoting accountability.

News Point Nigeria reports the inauguration, held yesterday at the hospital premises in Kano State, was conducted in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Kano/Jigawa States Office.

The development aligns with the ICPC Act and the Federal Government’s directive mandating all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to establish ACTUs as internal accountability mechanisms to prevent corruption and promote ethical conduct in public institutions.

The ICPC delegation was led by the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Kano/Jigawa States Office, Barrister Ahmad Muhammad Wada, who formally inaugurated and inducted the hospital’s eight-member ACTU Committee.

During the ceremony, Wada administered the oath of office to the committee members and charged them to discharge their duties with integrity, objectivity and confidentiality.

He emphasized that the ACTU members must remain committed to upholding transparency, enforcing compliance with established regulations and promoting good governance within the institution.

Wada commended the leadership of the hospital for taking proactive steps toward institutional reform and strengthening internal control systems.

He further urged all staff members of the hospital to cooperate fully with the ACTU to foster a culture of accountability and ethical public service delivery.

In his remarks, Associate Professor Salihu reiterated the hospital management’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption.

He described the establishment of the ACTU as a strategic and proactive initiative designed to enhance internal monitoring mechanisms, prevent unethical practices and sustain public trust in the hospital’s operations.

According to him, the ACTU will play a crucial role in promoting compliance with extant rules and regulations while reinforcing professional standards in the delivery of mental health services.

“The establishment of this unit represents a deliberate commitment to transparency and accountability in our administrative and clinical processes,” Salihu stated.

He assured the newly inaugurated committee of the hospital management’s full support and cooperation, noting that effective implementation of its mandate would depend on collaboration across departments.

The inauguration of the ACTU marks a significant milestone in the hospital’s ongoing efforts to deepen reforms, enhance professionalism and ensure transparent service delivery.

As a federal health institution providing specialized mental health services, the hospital said it remains committed to aligning its operational standards with national anti-corruption frameworks.

The hospital management also expressed appreciation to the ICPC Kano/Jigawa States Office for its partnership, guidance and continued support in promoting integrity systems within public institutions.

The event concluded with a renewed pledge by both the hospital leadership and ICPC representatives to sustain collaboration in strengthening accountability structures and advancing ethical governance in Nigeria’s public health sector.
