BANDITS have once again attacked Dan Gulbi community in Tureta Local Government Area of Sokoto State, barely two days after a similar assault that claimed the lives of 17 people, including Sallah visitors.
News Point Nigeria reports that the residents said the attackers, who arrived in large numbers on motorcycles, stormed the village at about 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday and immediately began shooting sporadically, sending terrified villagers fleeing in different directions in search of safety.
Community sources disclosed that the armed men moved through the area unhindered, unleashing violence on residents and causing widespread panic across the village.
According to residents, no fewer than 20 people were killed during the latest attack, while several houses were set ablaze. Many other residents were also reported missing as of the time of filing this report.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attackers struck while villagers were gathered under sheds and remained in the community for several hours after carrying out the assault.
“They came and started shooting at us. People ran in different directions to save their lives,” the source said.
The latest incident comes just days after a deadly attack on the same community.
On Sunday, bandits riding on more than 150 motorcycles reportedly invaded Dan Gulbi, killing 17 people and looting about 20 shops in one of the deadliest attacks recorded in the area during the Sallah period.
The recurring attacks have heightened fears among residents, who say they are living under constant threat from armed groups operating in the region.
Concerned community members have called on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently intervene and prevent further bloodshed in the area.
They urged the government to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities and take decisive action against the bandits responsible for the repeated attacks.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed that the command had received a distress call from Tureta regarding the incident.
According to him, police authorities immediately mobilised personnel to the affected community in response to the attack.
He, however, noted that a comprehensive report on the incident was still being awaited from officers deployed to the area.
