THERE is chaos in the Edo State House of Assembly over alleged plans by lawmakers to repeal the 2023 law granting financial autonomy to the legislature.
News Point Nigeria reports that Assembly workers have expressed concern that the repeal of the law could reduce their salaries and potentially lead to job losses.
It was gathered that the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Sunday Ojezele, has been pencilled in to present a motion seeking the repeal of the law.
The development has reportedly generated tension within the Assembly, with workers said to be worried about the possible consequences of reversing the financial autonomy granted to the legislature in 2023.
However, the leadership of the Edo Assembly Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), led by Farouk Haruna, declined to comment on the issue when contacted.
When contacted, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Yekini Idiaye, said the lawmakers had been in an Executive Session.
Idiaye, however, said he was not aware of any protest or plan by the lawmakers to repeal the law granting financial autonomy to the Assembly.
