THE Jigawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening and repositioning the State Independent Electoral Commission (SEC) to guarantee fairness, particularly in the conduct of local government elections.
News Point Nigeria reports that Governor Umar Namadi made this known while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of Alhaji Rabiu Yarima as the new Electoral Commissioner in the state.
Speaking at the event, the governor described Yarima as a seasoned public servant who has devoted many years of service to Jigawa State. He urged the new commissioner to bring his wealth of experience to bear in driving meaningful reforms within the electoral body.
In his acceptance remarks, Alhaji Rabiu Yarima expressed appreciation to Governor Namadi for the opportunity to serve in the new capacity. He assured that he would give his best to introduce positive changes and align the commission’s operations with modern standards.
Yarima further pledged to ensure fairness among political actors, irrespective of party affiliations.
Alhaji Rabiu Yarima is a retired civil servant who served as a Permanent Secretary across various ministries in Jigawa State. He also previously held the position of Senior Special Assistant to the Jigawa State Governor.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, commissioners, and other top government officials.
