FORMER Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Muhammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, following extensive consultations with political associates and discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Bindow formally re-registered as a member of the APC at his ward in Mubi, the commercial hub of Adamawa State, on Sunday, in the presence of the Mubi Ward APC Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Guruja.
News Point Nigeria reports that the re-registration exercise was witnessed by the former governor’s supporters, friends, family members, political associates and well-wishers, who gathered to welcome him back to the ruling party.
Speaking on his decision to return to the APC, Bindow said he had always respected party discipline and avoided actions that could be interpreted as anti-party activities.
He explained that his return was consistent with his long-standing political principles and came after wide-ranging consultations with political associates and confidants.
The former governor also disclosed that he held discussions with Vice President Kashim Shettima, whom he described as a brother and confidant, before making the decision to rejoin the APC.
According to him, many former colleagues, aides, supporters and associates had repeatedly appealed to him to return to the party and continue his political journey on the APC platform.
Bindow further recalled his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, describing it as “a pleasant and memorable one,” adding that the President expressed happiness over his decision to return to the ruling party.
The former governor endorsed all APC candidates and pledged to work for the party’s success in future elections.
He urged voters to support President Tinubu at the centre and Ahmad Tijjani Galadima for governor in Adamawa State, alongside all other APC candidates.
Senator Bindow stressed that his return to the APC was not driven by personal ambition or political division, but by the desire to strengthen the party and contribute to its victory.
“I am back to the APC not to divide, but to contribute; not to fight, but to build; and above all, to work with the party and its candidates toward victory,” Bindow said.
The former governor, who had sought a second term in office, had withdrawn from the governorship race on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State in May 2026.
Bindow’s return is expected to boost the APC’s political strength in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as political realignments and defections continue across the country.
