THE Kano State House of Assembly has formally confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State, following his successful screening by lawmakers, marking a key development in the state’s political leadership.
News Point Nigeria reports that Garo’s confirmation came after the presentation and adoption of a report by an ad hoc committee during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.
Presenting the committee’s findings, the Chairman and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, disclosed that Garo’s nomination followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He explained that the screening process was conducted in strict compliance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers the House of Assembly to approve a nominee to fill a vacancy in the office of deputy governor.
According to the committee, the nominee underwent a rigorous and comprehensive screening exercise, which included an extensive question-and-answer session. The process covered his educational qualifications, professional background, understanding of governance, and vision for Kano State, while his credentials were also thoroughly verified.
The committee further noted that Garo demonstrated a firm grasp of the responsibilities associated with the office and articulated a practical and workable vision aimed at supporting the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering on its mandate.
Based on these findings, the committee recommended his confirmation, a recommendation that was subsequently adopted by the House during plenary.
Following the adoption of the report, Speaker Falgore put the decision to a voice vote, where members unanimously endorsed the nomination, thereby formally confirming Murtala Sule Garo as the Deputy Governor of Kano State.
The Assembly also used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to continued collaboration with the executive arm of government in promoting good governance, strengthening accountability, and advancing the overall development of Kano State.
